Description
The Madison Area YMCA is hiring a 2026 Leader in Training (LIT) Coordinator to lead and support our co-ed leadership development program for students entering grades 6-9. Camp dates:  June 22 2026 - August 27, 2026 Position Overview: The LIT Coordinator provides direct supervision of LIT participants and leads the execution of curriculum-based lesson plans focused on leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and civic engagement. This role plays a key part in mentoring teens as they build skills and prepare for future leadership and volunteer roles. Essential Functions:  * Provide consistent, positive supervision of LIT participants. * Create a safe, structured, and engaging program environment  * Lead curriculum-based activities, games, and workshops, including impromptu activities as needed * Facilitate leadership development and volunteer experiences, including a Civic engagement workshop * Guide, coach, and redirect participants behavior as needed * Follow daily schedules and model punctuality and professionalism * Maintain clean, organized program spaces and equipment * Communicate areas of concern to the Associate Camp Director * Adhere to all YMCA and Camp policies and safety protocols LIT Staff Receive:  * Competitive pay * Up to 40 hours per week (schedule varies) * 40 hours of mandatory trainingJune 15-19, 2026 * CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications provided * Eligibility for a 10-week stay cash incentive.  Qualifications:  * A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent  * Two seasons of experience working with youth in a camp setting (YMCA experience preferred) * Must be 18 years or older. * Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills * A willingness to participate in high adventure activities, if needed. Working Conditions:   * Ability to work more than a 40-hour week. * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat in excess of 90F and high humidity. * Ability to wear a face covering on an as needed basis based on guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Department of Health. * Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. * Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. * Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, walking and hiking on uneven surfaces. * Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. * Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. * Comfortable administering first aid and exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases is possible. Abuse Prevention Responsibilities All employees are expected to maintain boundaries, follow mandated reporting requirements, and uphold our policies and procedures to protect youth and participants. This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
