THE RENFREW COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

requires the following
LITERACY BASIC SKILLS INSTRUCTORLOCATION: Arnprior Continuing Education, Arnprior
Travel to designated schools or learning locations within Renfrew County is required.
HOURS PER WEEK: Approximately 25 hours/week during the Sept-June school year (hours may vary depending on work availability/continued funding). Hours of work could include daytime or evening classes on weekdays
SUMMARY: Literacy Basic Skills Instructors facilitate individual and small group adult instructional sessions in areas such as English, numeracy and computer skills in accordance with applicable Ministry and Board requirements.
RATE OF PAY: $34.66/hr plus vacation pay (non-union hourly paid position with no benefits).

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Three year post-secondary degree or diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience required with a concentration in education, social work, sociology, linguistics or applied languages or a related field preferred

  • Adult Education Certificate or registration with the Ontario College of Teachers considered an asset
  • Knowledge of adult education curriculum and outcome based learning an asset
  • Experience in teaching adults and ability to work with learners of varying abilities preferred
  • Must possess excellent oral/written communication skills and strong math skills (up to grade 10 academic)
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office and Google Chrome
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with ability to work alone or as a team

Responsibilities

• Instruct subject areas of Math, Communications and Digital Technology

  • Facilitate individualized and small group learning based on a learner centered approach
  • Develop and deliver learning activities; use resources and tools that reflect the experiences, social context and learning goals of students
  • Prepare and administer initial, ongoing and exit assessments
  • Facilitate goal setting, learning plans and exit referrals
  • Document student progress, attendance, input and track monthly statistics
  • Participate in staff meetings, and contribute to the development of innovative practices
  • Promote and reinforce respectful adult education environment that enhances positive attitudes towards learning
  • Maintains student confidentiality within the school environment and the community
