EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education (Master’s in Reading, Literacy, or Curriculum and Instruction is preferred).
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with ESL.
  • Completion of Texas Reading Academics (required).

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Deep understanding of the Science of Reading, TEKS, intervention models, and assessment tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience with a strong background in literacy instruction.
  • Proven experience in coaching teachers and leading professional development.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

A Literacy Specialist in Texas is a certified educator who provides expert support to improve
student literacy and reading achievement. This role includes curriculum development,
assessment coordination, and instructional coaching. The Literacy Specialist collaborates
closely with teachers and administrators to model best practices, build capacity in evidence-
based reading instruction, and ensure alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS). Certification in the Texas Reading Academies is required.
