The Open Door Educational Services specializes in helping students with learning disabilities overcome reading and spelling challenges. We use research-based, specialized programs, and provide free comprehensive training to ensure our tutors have the tools they need to make a real difference in students’ lives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Open Door Educational Services is expanding, and we’re seeking passionate educators to join our team in the Ottawa.
We are currently hiring tutors for in-person, one-on-one reading and spelling support for students with learning disabilities. Tutors work directly in students’ homes, typically meeting with each student twice per week for one-hour sessions.
This is a contractor position—tutors are self-employed and set their own availability. Hours are not guaranteed, and the role grows over time based on client needs and your availability, rather than following a fixed part-time schedule.
We are looking to hire a tutor who can work in the following neighbourhoods: Kemptville, Kanata, Stittsville, Barrhaven, and Nepean.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A degree in education, psychology, youth and child studies, English, linguistics, or a related field
  • Experience working with children aged 6–15, ideally in an educational setting
  • Preference given to candidates with experience teaching reading and spelling
  • Availability for a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Willingness to travel to students’ homes within your selected areas of Ottawa
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one, in-person tutoring to students aged 6–15 in their homes
  • Teach a structured, multi-sensory reading and spelling program (training provided)
  • Maintain a supportive and encouraging learning environments with students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and/or anxiety
  • Establish a consistent tutoring schedule and commit to students for the long-term
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians and the Open Door team
