REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent
  • Minimum five years of experience as a legal assistant in a litigation practice in BC
  • Experience or familiarity with bankruptcy and insolvency law is strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and litigation procedures
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • The ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
  • Strong organization skills and exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients

Responsibilities
  • Copy editing and formatting legal correspondence and documents, including pleadings, affidavits and court forms
  • Filing documents with courts following British Columbia procedures and deadlines
  • Assisting with trial and hearing preparation, including compiling briefs and organizing exhibits
  • Performing various administrative tasks, including file opening and closing, billing and follow-up to review outstanding accounts, copying and scanning
  • Managing calendars, coordinating meetings, scheduling hearings and monitoring deadlines
  • Maintaining an efficient digital file system, utilizing strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
