JOB SUMMARY

MLT Aikins is looking for a litigation legal assistant responsible for providing administrative and clerical support in the litigation group of the Vancouver office. Our ideal candidate is highly organized, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and is able to follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional environment.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent
  • A minimum of two to three years of experience as a litigation legal assistant in British Columbia
  • Experience in ICBC Defence or similar high volume and fast-paced litigation is an asset
  • Advanced computer skills including in Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
  • Strong organization skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients
Responsibilities
  • Editing and formatting correspondence and documents
  • Performing various administrative tasks, including file opening and closing, billing and following-up to review outstanding accounts, copying and scanning
  • Maintaining an efficient digital file system using strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Booking examinations, court and hearing dates, and maintaining the BF system
  • Assisting with preparing court materials such as application records, books of authorities, appeal records and appeal books
  • Playing an active role and taking initiative in assisting the lawyers with practice management tasks such as booking meetings and boardrooms and organizing conference calls, hotel arrangements and registration for seminars and courses
