Description
About Us We are a high-performing, California-based personal injury law firm with a fully remote team of over 240 professionals worldwide. Our mission is to deliver exceptional client outcomes through meticulous case preparation, strategic litigation, and operational excellence. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Litigation Medical Counsel to join our litigation team and play a pivotal role in the medical-legal strategy of our cases. Position Overview The Litigation Medical Counsel (Lit Med) will oversee and execute all medical aspects of a case from the pre-litigation transition through trial preparation. You will be the medical strategist—reviewing records, developing causation theories, preparing clients for medical testimony, and supporting litigation attorneys in discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial. This role requires a licensed Medical Doctor with expertise in personal injury, a deep understanding of med-legal processes, and the ability to translate complex medical evidence into persuasive case strategies. This role is possible to transition into 100% in-office in Monterrey, Mexico. Key Responsibilities Initial Case Takeover & Medical Review Review pre-litigation case files, audits, and medical records. Identify missing documentation, prior injuries, and causation concerns. Analyze ISO searches for prior claims and document findings in Filevine. Medical Strategy Development Build detailed medical timelines and treatment chronologies. Establish clear causation theories (new injury, aggravation, unrelated). Recommend and coordinate treatment plans aligned with case value and policy limits. Discovery & Legal Support Draft and review medical-focused RFAs, SROGs, and RFPs. Assist in preparing responses to defense discovery. Assemble, label, and bookmark medical exhibits for litigation. Subpoena Defense Review defense subpoenas for compliance and case impact. Coordinate retrieval of missing records and advise on production strategies. DME (Defense Medical Exam) Oversight Review DME notices for legal compliance. Coordinate with nurse observers, prepare clients, and review DME reports. Create rebuttal notes to challenge defense medical opinions. Deposition & Mediation Support Prepare clients for medical testimony. Draft strategic rebuttals and medical sections of mediation briefs. Expert & Damages Strategy Identify and vet treating and retained experts. Align disability and wage loss claims with medical evidence. Filevine Management & Communication Maintain accurate Filevine entries across medical-related tabs. Collaborate with litigation associates, pre-litigation teams, and external providers. Professional Development Attend med-legal training sessions and stay updated on firm SOPs. Mentor new team members on medical strategy and documentation. Qualifications Licensed Medical Doctor (MD) 3+ years’ experience in personal injury, orthopedics, neurology, or related med-legal fields. Familiarity with litigation processes, discovery, and expert testimony. Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex medical records. Proficiency with Filevine, Google Suite, and remote communication platforms (RingCentral), highly preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
The Litigation Medical Counsel will oversee all medical aspects of a case from pre-litigation through trial preparation. This includes reviewing medical records, developing causation theories, and supporting litigation attorneys throughout the legal process.
