Description To provide support to a collaborative project with local community centers including in-person, phone, and email communication with staff members and clients, scheduling, and providing outreach support. This position also involves providing litigation support to the attorneys, by compiling data, coordinating intakes, interviewing clients and witnesses, responding to client inquiries, drafting and filing pleadings with courts, preparing correspondence, and assisting in preparation of cases. This position allows for a hybrid schedule. Some travel within Lincoln is required. Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Communicates either orally or in writing with management, members of the firm, partners in statewide network, non-profit community centers, clients, and the public. • Provides support in Legal Aid's Access to Justice Center. • Applies computer skills and data entry, using firm systems, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Pika. • Provides litigation assistance to the attorneys, acting as a liaison between clients or opposing counsel and Legal Aid attorneys. • Interviews clients and witnesses to obtain necessary case-specific information. • Relays the legal facts and advice given by an attorney to the client, following up with written materials. • Drafts, proofs and/or edits legal documents and correspondence. • May notarize legal documents, if necessary. • Maintains general office support and administration. • Assists in implementing Legal Aid's Mission Statement, goals and priorities, including helping clients to become self-sufficient. • Complies with Legal Aid policies, procedures, and Mission Statement. • Complies with all LSC Regulations and record keeping in the handling of the cases in which litigation support is provided. • May be required to travel to community centers or to the clerk's office to pick up/drop off documents. • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Desired Abilities & Qualifications: • At least one year of formal education in paralegal studies is preferred. • Have or able to obtain a notary. Required Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Required Experience: • One year or more of paralegal experience required and/or paralegal studies educational program and training. • Experience/Ability to work with and interview diverse clients from all backgrounds.
