JOB DESCRIPTION – LIVE-IN CAREGIVER / PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER (PSW)

OVERVIEW

Sunshine Care is looking for compassionate and dedicated Live-In Caregivers / PSWs to join our mission of helping seniors age safely and comfortably in their own homes. This unique role is ideal for professionals who can live on-site with a client and provide continuous, high-quality support. You’ll offer personal care, companionship, and peace of mind to individuals who require round-the-clock assistance.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in live-in or senior care (home care, long-term care, hospice, or similar settings)
  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks, including lifting/transferring clients
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, empathetic, and respectful of client privacy and dignity
  • Knowledge of dementia, Alzheimer’s, and disability care is an asset
  • Basic cooking skills and ability to adapt meals to dietary needs

REQUIREMENTS

  • PSW Certificate from an Ontario-recognized college or private career college (required)
  • OR Healthcare Aide/Nursing Assistant Certificate with equivalent experience (may be considered)
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G2 or G) and access to reliable transportation
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with seniors in home care or similar settings
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (Level C)
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (per current public health standards)
  • TB Test and Up-to-Date Immunizations
  • Ability to commit to live-in rotations (e.g., 3–7 days on, 24-hour presence with sleep break)
  • At least one Professional Reference (preferably a past manager or team lead)

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily personal care routines: bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting
  • Provide mobility support, including safe transfers and use of mobility aids
  • Administer medications as directed and monitor for changes in health
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding when required
  • Maintain a clean and safe home environment through light housekeeping
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to reduce isolation
  • Document care activities and communicate changes to the care team or family
  • Follow care plans and collaborate with nurses, coordinators, and family members
  • Remain on-site throughout the assigned duration of care, with designated breaks
