Description

We are looking for an experienced Live-in House Manager / Housekeeper / Cook to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and care of a beautiful property in GL7. This has been the family’s home for 10 years and though it is not their main residence, it is their “happy place” for weekends and holidays and they are looking for someone to be very much part of their family, with their 3 children aged 10, 13 and 15, and with them for the long term. They would like someone who is invested in them as a family and who will enjoy being solely responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of a beautiful home.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is house-proud and who enjoys a varied role. You will be responsible for keeping the house to an exacting standard, for the cleaning, washing and ironing and simple healthy cooking so that it is welcoming and ready for immediate use by the family at any time. There will be times that are busier than others so you will have to organise your time accordingly.
As House Manager you will need to be observant and able to identify any problems in a timely manner and rectify any issues by having a good network of local suppliers and contractors. You will be liaising with the Principal on a regular basis and therefore good communication skills are essential. You are also required to keep the house fully stocked with products and groceries and keep all household inventories up to date. They would also like you to be able to prepare food for their arrival at the weekends and be able to make good use of any seasonal produce from the garden. The mother does enjoy cooking herself, but would love an extra pair of hands over the weekend to help her.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the property, running the house and its grounds to the needs of the family, reporting to them accordingly
  • Be security aware, ensuring that the property and grounds are always cared for and secure
  • Keep supplies stocked while discussing significant purchases with the family
  • Ensure the house is prepared for family and guest arrival at all times
  • Carry out all housekeeping duties to ensure the cleanliness and general housekeeping is maintained to a very high standard throughout the home
  • Responsible for the high standards required for the laundry, clothes care and ironing
  • Wardrobe management to include care of fine clothes
  • Prepare and maintain the household inventories for all furniture, accessories and effects, cellars etc
  • Manage and stock food pantry, wine cellar, household items, etc
  • Ensure proper supply of oil, firewood, and other such supplies, such as flowers for the family’s arrival, for the house and property
  • Food preparation and cooking of meals

Requirements:

  • A current driver’s licence
  • Proven track record within a private household and longevity in previous roles
  • Be proactive and always one step ahead
  • Have exceptional high standards and be able to keep a property immaculately
  • Display a meticulous eye for detail
  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, a natural flair for keeping a home ready at all times and a passion for a job being well done are all critical
  • Possess a professional friendly manner with a good sense of humour
  • Anticipate the family’s needs with a warm and friendly manner assisting with all their requirements and resolving any issues that may arise
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills, adaptability, flexibility and problem-solving abilities
  • Be comfortable around dogs as they have 2

In general, you will work 45 hours per week, from 9am to 6pm, Thursday through to Monday. Your days off will be Tuesday and Wednesday unless the family are not in residence when some flexibility can be given around this.
You will be provided with a private 3 bedroom cottage with its own garage and garden.
