JOB SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for efficiently planning, scheduling, and dispatching freight loads to ensure on-time delivery, optimal resource utilization, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and experience in transportation or freight logistics.

Job Duties:

  • Load plan and schedule daily loads based on customer requirements and available resources.
  • Dispatch drivers efficiently, ensuring routes are optimized for cost, time, and service levels.
  • Monitor load progress and update customers and internal stakeholders on any changes or delays.
  • Coordinate with drivers, warehouse staff, and customer service to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
  • Manage backhauls and reduce empty miles through effective routing and load assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of loads, driver availability, fuel usage, and equipment status.
  • Handle unforeseen issues such as traffic delays, mechanical problems, or weather disruptions, adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers to provide updates, instructions, and support as needed.
  • Use TMS (Transportation Management System) and GPS tracking systems to manage dispatch operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by your manager.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, dispatching, and load planning
  • Able to manage multiple competing high priority items
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, and growing business environment
  • Strong geographical knowledge and understanding of transportation routes
  • Proficient with dispatch and routing software, TMS, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced trucking or freight brokerage environment
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations and ELD system

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based environment with occasional need to visit warehouse or yard
  • May involve weekend or evening shifts depending on business needs
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven atmosphere
