Alberta Grains is looking for a talented individual to join our team in the temporary role of Loan Officer (full-time for 6 months, with the possibly of turning into permanent). This position reports to the Senior Manager, FarmCash. The ideal individual is motivated and detail-oriented and a proactive professional who excels in a fast-paced environment, communicates with clarity and confidence, and is passionate about supporting agricultural producers. As a key liaison between producers and the FarmCash Advance Program, you will guide applicants through the loan process while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
Alberta Grains Commission is the amalgamated commission formed by joining the Alberta Barley and the Alberta Wheat Commissions. Alberta Grains is committed to advancing and promoting the interests of 18,000 wheat and barley farmers in the province of Alberta. We continue to foster innovation, research and development, and sustainability in the agriculture sector. By bringing together the best of both commissions, our aim is to leverage the combined resources, knowledge and experience to deliver unparalleled value to farmers. We are a licensed administrator of the AAFC Advance Payment Program, providing loans both interest free and interest-bearing to hundreds of successful applicants each year, coming from the cereal crops, livestock, and honey producers across Western Canada.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in banking, lending, or financial services, loan processor or underwriter experience is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in finance, economics, business administration, accounting, or a related field is an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with lending regulations and compliance standards.
  • Numerical proficiency and familiarity with financial calculations.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential for evaluating loan applications, assessing risk, and making lending decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are important for interacting with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work effectively under pressure are valuable in resolving issues and meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn are important in an evolving industry where technology and regulations may change.
