The Loan Training Specialist ensures that lending staff have the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide exceptional member service, comply with policies and regulations, and achieve organizational goals. Travel Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel to all Westmark locations to provide lender training support at all branches and the Full-Service Contact Center. Schedule: Average of 40 hours per Monday through Friday work week Key Responsibilities: Training & Facilitation Deliver in-person and virtual training sessions for lending staff, including new hire orientation, follow-up training, and refresher courses. Facilitate group and one-on-one learning for loan officers, underwriters, and branch staff to strengthen lending knowledge and compliance. Support rollout of new lending products, systems, and services by preparing and presenting effective training. Lending & Underwriting Support Continuously develop and maintain professional expertise by staying current on credit union policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This includes proactively seeking learning opportunities, engaging in ongoing training, and regularly visiting branches and the Contact Center to stay connected with frontline operations, understand evolving member needs, and ensure training remains relevant and effective. Serve as a resource for staff questions on loan policies, procedures, underwriting guidelines, and systems. Assist in evaluating loan files and providing coaching or corrective training as needed. Instructional Development Collaborate with the Training and Development Manager to create and maintain training curricula, course assessments, and learning materials specific to lending. Ensure training content is accurate, compliant with regulations, and aligned with Westmark’s processes and culture. Identify skill gaps in lending performance and recommend training solutions. Program Support Participate in employee orientation sessions to introduce lending products, services, and processes. Track employee progress in training programs and report results to management. Assist with administration of the Learning Management System as it relates to lending courses. Professional Standards Uphold confidentiality and compliance with all applicable credit union, state, and federal regulations. Maintain a professional and engaging presence when facilitating training. Requirements Key Competencies: Lending & Underwriting Expertise: Strong understanding of consumer and/or mortgage lending, underwriting processes, and regulatory requirements. Training & Facilitation Skills: Ability to engage diverse audiences with effective communication and instructional techniques. Collaboration: Works closely with Training, Contact Center, and branch management teams to ensure consistency in lending practices. Adaptability: Balances dual responsibilities of lending support and training delivery, adjusting to organizational needs. Problem-Solving: Identifies performance gaps and develops practical, effective training solutions. Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to clearly explain complex lending concepts. Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn and train on lending systems and eLearning tools. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant lending and underwriting experience within a financial institution; or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant lending and training experience; or An equivalent combination of formal education, lender/underwriting experience, and training/instructional experience. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and present for extended periods during training sessions. Manual dexterity for tasks such as typing and operating office equipment. Sitting for extended periods of time. Visual and auditory abilities to understand and communicate effectively. Repetitive motion using wrists, hands, and fingers. Capacity to lift and move up to 20 pounds as needed for training materials and equipment.
