Position Title: Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) Position Type: Temporary Full-Time Duration: April 1, 2026, to May 31, 2026. Reports to: Fire & Emergency Services Coordinator (Fire Chief) Job Overview Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) is an entry-level, mentored role responsible for supporting FireSmart and emergency management initiatives for the Haisla Nation. The Fire Chief and FireSmart Coordinator provide supervision, with FireSmart duties assigned and coordinated by the FireSmart Coordinator in collaboration with the Fire Chief and Public Safety Manager. Organizational Status The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We believe in building a strong and thriving community, with healthy and happy members and a sustained and prosperous environment. We are about 1962+ people, with approximately 532 living in Haisla (Kitamaat Village). We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do. Duties & Responsibilities • Coordination and hands-on field work, reporting to the Fire Chief. • Work closely with the FireSmart Coordinator through weekly meetings and side-by-side mentorship (minimum two days per week). • Support community and regional FireSmart initiatives, including travel to regional projects with partners (e.g., BC Parks, BC Ministry of Forests). • Supervise two summer students carrying out wildfire mitigation on private property. • Support community outreach, mitigation, and preparedness activities. • The applicant must be willing to travel for training and conferences that might require leaving the region, such as the Wildfire Conference. • Other Duties as required. Skills & Qualifications • High school Diploma or equivalent. • Valid BC driver’s license. • Knowledge of health and safety regulations is an asset. • Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization is an asset. • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making. • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email. • Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to professionally connect with and influence a diverse group of individuals. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant). Position Type: Temporary Full-Time (30 hours per week)                             Duration: April 1, 2026, to May 31, 2026.
