Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead multiple teams of R&D and support them in achieving the agreed upon R&D and Engineering targets. Each day, you will manage and develop resources directly and through Team Leads. You will also showcase your expertise by driving technology, platform, and Intellectual Property (IP) management.
The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-Hybrid
This role is contributing to the ABB Traction, part of Motion Business Area in ABB, in Berlin, Germany. Main stakeholders are our partners in the railway industry.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Lead and manage engineering and R&D teams, ensuring achievement of quality, time, and budget targets as well as balance between short term operative customer project goals and mid-term product development goals.
  • Ensure strong project execution across the full product lifecycle – from concept to validation and maintain operational excellence through continuous improvement of processes and methods.
  • Support Sales and Product Management with technical expertise during customer acquisition.
  • Ensure development of team skills to continuously improve efficiency and quality.
  • Advising team leaders and employees on challenging technical issues.
  • Promote and coordinate cross-location cooperation as well as a strong culture of safety, compliance, diversity, and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in engineering.
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering and R&D, ideally in power electronics with 10+ years industrial experience.
  • Strong knowledge in areas such as: IGBT/SiC-based converter design, grid/traction integration, EMC, thermal and control design.
  • Strong understanding of development processes, project management and lifecycle engineering.
  • Strategic mindset, hands-on leadership, and cross-site team management skills.
  • Fluent in English and conversational in German.
