Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology (6 mths fixed term)

Applications are invited to apply for the post of Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Bradford Teaching Hospitals. We are seeking a consultant with drive, commitment and enthusiasm who will bring a consistent focus to high performance and quality of care, working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clinical leadership to the wider team.
This is a 10PA post for 6 months initially. It includes outpatient work, and a weekend rota for inpatient work in acute medicine.

  • If you are currently a substantive consultant, we would require one of your referees to be either the Medical Director or Chief Executive ,
  • If you are currently a Specialty Registrar, we would require one of your referees to be your Training Programme Director

The appointee is expected to have a CCT or equivalent in Diabetes and Endocrinology, or be within 6 months of obtaining this, and will be expected to have a wide range of experience in all aspects of the specialism. The appointee will work alongside the existing team to provide comprehensive service provision.

Duties will involve delivery of Diabetes and Endocrine outpatient clinics based at Bradford Royal Infirmary and service development.

The appointee will work alongside the existing team to provide comprehensive service provision.
Duties will involve delivery of Diabetes and Endocrine outpatient clinics based at Bradford Royal Infirmary and service development.
The Diabetic Antenatal service is currently undergoing a redesign in part due to the increased number of patients attending the service each year. A new post holder will be expected to contribute to this service development which will also include delivery of a specific Endocrine Antenatal clinic.
There are specialist endocrine services delivered by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust including the pituitary service, which has close links to Leeds Teaching Hospitals (tertiary centre for neurosurgery); this has scope for development including attending the regional pituitary MDT (currently virtual). There is a service for patients presenting with adrenal adenomas with the Endocrine Specialist Nurses completing a protocol, this needs to be developed further including attending local and regional MDTs.
The appointee will be expected to participate in the student teaching rota, administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, participate in the running of the department in collaboration with consultant colleagues, communicate with local practitioners, supporting nursing and other AHP members of the team.
The appointee will be expected to take an active interest in clinical governance, maintaining medical excellence and management and service development. Clinical audit is a mandatory requirement within the Trust and the appointee will be expected to attend and participate in audit and clinical governance. It is expected that the appointee will make use of opportunities for continuing medical education on a regular basis in the form of local, regional, national and international clinical meetings. The appointee will be encouraged to take part in the administration of CME and to accrue the number of CME credits determined by the Royal College of Physicians. There is a requirement to participate in the annual consultant appraisal programme.
The appointee will have the opportunity to develop research and currently we have a research nurse working on a number of projects. We have strong links with the Bradford Institute for Health Research and the Born in Bradford research project
