JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a Locum Consultant in Gynaecology with a special interest in Hysteroscopy Colposcopy and Vulval.
An enthusiastic, team player who would enjoy working alongside our Gynaecological Oncology Team as a Diagnostic Lead Gynaecology Consultant in the Department of Gynaecological Oncology at Musgrove Park Hospital
The position that we are offering is a full time (10 PA) and in a 12 month, fixed term contract. There is also a 1:12 on call commitment requirement. With a flexible job plan for the right candidate

Specialist registration with the GMC is essential for this locum consultant role, under local organisational arrangements. Where you do not hold GMC specialist registration, and you are not pending a CCT /ARCP/CESR outcome to obtain it, the role will be converted to the Specialist contract, pay and national terms & conditions set by NHS Employers.
The successful candidate will have joint accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and in Colposcopy with the British Society of Colposcopists and Cervical Pathologists (BSCCP) and should have either a SITM in gynaecological oncology and/or vulval disease by the time of commencement but other evidence of specialist interest relative to the post would be considered (e.g. advance outpatient hysteroscopy).

JOB DESCRIPTION
The candidate will join an already well-established team of three sub-specialist Gynaecological Oncology Consultants, alongside a Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, which includes Consultants with special interests in Urogynaecology, Menstrual Dysfunction, Minimal Access surgery, Fetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine and Diabetes.
The Trust has recently merged with Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) and the post will support the combined Somerset Foundation Trust spoke and hub cross-county service. The Trust is seeking to expand their consultant base and so there may be opportunities for extension to a permanent position following the initial maternity locum for the right candidate
The Somerset Gynaecological Cancer Centre has an excellent multi-disciplinary team with input from 2 medical Oncologists, two Clinical Oncologists, three specialist Gynaecological Pathologists, one Gynaecological Cytopathologist, responsible for the Cervical Screening Cytopathology service, and 4 Consultant Radiologists with specialist interest in gynaecology and pelvic imaging. We have three Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and a clinical nurse practitioner (CNP) in MPH and a further two CNSs in YDH, where there is a separate unit lead consultant.
Clinical service arrangements
We are keen to encourage applicants to apply who would work flexibly within an already well-established team of specialists. Candidates with skills to perform peri-oncological gynaecological surgery are encouraged to apply. The candidate would have 3 fixed main theatre lists over a 12-week rota, with additional flexible sessions for leave cover. There will be an additional 3 day surgery list per 12-week rota. They will also have a colposcopy clinic, a low-risk rapid access clinic, a PMB/hysteroscopy clinic and the candidate will be the lead for the PMB service and audit and will be the deputy Cervical
Screening Provider Lead (CSPL). Some of their work would be worked on a flexible timetable.

To provide, to a high standard, a range of specialist diagnostic services for patient referred through the two-week wait rapid access pathway, supporting the sub-specialist trained gynaecological oncologists and to help and manage the pre-cancer diagnostic workload, supporting the senior nurses and trainees.
Except in emergencies, or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed annually. You are responsible for the associated duties set out in the Terms and Conditions.
This post has an on call commitment of a 1:12 night time on call commitments for general gynaecology. There is also a regular day-time session covering emergency gynaecology.
The number of Consultants who are away on leave at any one time will be agreed with the Trust specialty policy. During the absence of colleagues on leave, Consultants are expected to provide agreed levels of cover.
Where you wish to seek agreement to have External Duties included in your Job Plan, you must notify your clinical manager in advance. Scheduling of such duties will be by agreement between you and your clinical manager.
Where emergency work takes place at regular and predictable times, your clinical manager will seek to schedule it as part of the Programmed Activities in your Job Plan schedule.
