Description

Company Description
Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local population. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.
Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Job Description
We are seeking a new Consultant colleague to join the Oncology team based at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust specialising in Melanoma and Lung Cancer initially offering one year fixed term locum to start as soon as possible pending substantive recruitment, which would involve at least one of these specialties in a part-time or full time capacity.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust provides oncological treatments for patients diagnosed with lung cancer at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, and St Richards Hospital Chichester (West Sussex). Each site runs a separate Lung MDT, but there is combined Oncological team working across both sites. Clinics run at each hospital site with chemotherapy treatment day units at each hospital. All radiotherapy is delivered at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, with Lung SABR now fully established including SABR for Oligometastases. The candidate will principally support the lung service in Portsmouth to cover a sabbatical, but options to work at St Richards Hospital are also possible.
The Portsmouth and Chichester MDT’s have a thoracic surgeon present and run local clinics. Thoracic surgery is undertaken at Southampton and St Georges. The Respiratory teams provide full interventional services, and there are excellent CNS teams supporting both sites.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust Cancer Centre provides melanoma services to the region (Portsmouth, Chichester, and the Isle of Wight) based out of Portsmouth at Queen Alexandra Hospital, with patients having treatment at the day units at Queen Alexandra Hospitals and Fareham Community Hospital and there is an established homecare service for immunotherapy. The dermatology service supports the Skin MDT, has a Mohs service for non-melanoma excision and there is excellent plastic surgery on site. CNS services support melanoma, as does an AOS unit staffed by advancing nursing practitioners and doctors running 0800-2000 7 days a week.
There is a well-established and enthusiastic Oncological Research team supporting and encouraging clinical trials, and links with the University of Portsmouth. Participation in and leading research is strongly encouraged as is the development of academic roles.
