JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Locum Consultant Respiratory Physician to join our friendly and dynamic Respiratory team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. You will work alongside eight experienced respiratory consultants within the Somerset Lung Centre, providing high-quality respiratory and acute medical care for a diverse patient population.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to inpatient and outpatient respiratory services, participate in the general medical on-call rota, and develop or continue your sub-specialty interests in areas aligned with departmental needs (airways, ILD, pleural disease, lung cancer, sleep medicine, severe asthma, bronchoscopy).

JOB DESCRIPTION
You and your clinical manager will agree a prospective Job Plan that sets out your main duties and responsibilities, a schedule for carrying out your Programmed Activities, your managerial responsibilities, your accountability arrangements, your objectives and supporting resources. This post is a Taunton-based appointment.
Specialist registration with the GMC is essential for this locum consultant role, under local organisational arrangements. Where you do not hold GMC specialist registration, and you are not pending a CCT /ARCP/CESR outcome to obtain it, the role will be converted to the Specialist contract, pay and national terms & conditions set by NHS Employers. Provide specialist diagnosis, treatment and care to respiratory and acute medical patients.
Contribute to inpatient care on the Coleridge Respiratory Unit, including the Respiratory Support Unit.
Undertake general respiratory and specialist outpatient clinics in the Somerset Lung Centre and community sites.
Participate in the acute general medical on-call rota (1:12).
Participate in MDTs for lung cancer, ILD, severe asthma, and airways disease.
Engage in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
Participate in clinical audit, governance, and service development activities.
Support the Respiratory@Home service and community integrated pathways.
Develop sub-specialty interests aligned with the department, e.g., interventional bronchoscopy, pleural, ILD, sleep medicine, airways disease.
