The Consultant will play a vital role in the Urology Department, overseeing the diagnosis and management of patients with a particular focus on 2WW (Two-Week Wait) diagnostics and surgical procedures. The role offers an excellent opportunity to refine and expand special interests within urology, supported by appropriate mentorship and guidance.The Consultant will lead their own clinics, which include general and specialist consultations, ensuring that all activities align with the highest professional standards. Operating theatre sessions will form a significant component of the role, where the Consultant will manage both day-case and inpatient elective surgical procedures. Additionally, they will be responsible for in-patient care and addressing emergency cases as required, ensuring seamless patient care across various settings.A key expectation is for the Consultant to take a proactive role in managing outpatient clinics and contributing meaningfully to the overall direction and growth of the specialty.
They will bear continuing responsibility for their patients’ care, maintaining the proper functioning of their clinics and ensuring high standards in both clinical and operational aspects.Administrative duties are also integral to this role, encompassing responsibilities related to patient care documentation, clinic management, and departmental coordination. Active participation in medical audit processes will be mandatory, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to clinical governance principles.Beyond clinical and administrative responsibilities, the Consultant will be deeply involved in the professional development of trainees and allied health professionals within the department. They are expected to mentor, guide, and support junior doctors and medical students, playing an essential role in their education and assessment.
