JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Logistics Analyst
Department: Transportation Department
Position Reports to: Logistics Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Logistics Analyst is responsible for the development and execution of strategic inbound and outbound routing plans using company assets and third-party common carriers. This position is a support function that works closely with the Procurement, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Vendors, Freight Carriers, and Customers. Correct execution of this position will result in all freight costs being managed to the lowest levels possible while maximizing service levels, ensuring profitability, optimizing kilometers travelled, and enhancing utilization of available capacity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience within a Transportation/Logistics environment.
  • Food Distribution experience preferred.
  • Completion of Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree.
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues.
  • Strong ability to lead negotiations and make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Strong sense of initiative and commitment for getting desired results to support business objectives.
  • Previous experience coaching and mentoring others.
  • Experience utilizing load boards (Load Link) is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal clients in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members.
  • Independent thinker, willing to take initiative in pursuit of company goals.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately piece together LTL shipments and negotiate with third-party carriers/load brokers to generate effective revenue on inbound and outbound trucks and backhauls.
  • Lead freight projects from start to finish. Key focus areas will include RFQ’s, technology integrations, vendor/carrier performance reporting, minimizing accessorial charges, and expansion of freight volume management.
  • Plan and maintain outbound routes, optimizing truck capacity and routing efficiencies to reduce kilometers travelled while maintaining service standards.
  • Network and establish relationships with partner carriers.
  • Daily completion of Loadlink – ensuring all available trucks and loads are posted accurately.
  • Tendering freight to partner carriers.
  • Analyze Freight Allowance tables and outbound routing metrics to ensure all managed loads are profitable and efficient.
  • Update management on inbound and outbound freight metrics and on KPIs.
  • Initiate and monitor shipments from partner carriers in Canada/US.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Procurement, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Sales to ensure inbound and outbound objectives are met.
  • Keep the Transportation Supervisor informed of any non-normative deliveries, routing issues, or situations.
  • Communicate with carriers, forwarders, and customs brokers via phone, email, etc.
  • Work with 3PL providers, consolidating shipments and making decisions that prioritize customer experience, routing efficiency, and cost.
  • Stay current with transportation prices and trends.
  • Provide clear communication and consistent follow up on loads booked and shipped.
  • Maintain a cooperative, productive work environment.
  • Respond to difficult and stressful situations in an effective and positive manner.
  • Develop, expand, and optimize our network of partner carriers and 3PLs.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts across both inbound and outbound supply chains.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to a small team of coordinators.
  • Troubleshoot logistics issues as they arise.
  • Approve and track freight costs and accessorial charges.
  • Complete and keep up to date on all Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality Assurance training pertinent to the role.
  • Responsible for reporting any and all concerns related to the Health & Safety, safe handling, and integrity of all items received, stored, and distributed by Flanagan Foodservice.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety, Food Safety and WHMIS practices.
  • Follow safe and efficient work procedures to meet customer requirements including maintaining a clean and safe environment.
