Logistics Specialist - Norfolk, VA - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a part-time Logistics Specialist who will be responsible for the collection and delivery of confidential documents and other acceptable items from customers to include, operation of a mid-sized truck, loading and unloading collection containers, operating a shredder, material handling equipment (including a forklift), and providing customer service. Performs minor maintenance and safety checks of the truck. Applicant must have the availability to work Monday through Friday, Flexible 12 PM to 6 PM ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:  * Provides quality goods and service to customers and continually works to improve service to customers * Follows assigned route to retrieve and/or deliver collection containers according to service contracts and utilizes the software platform to document the service * Load collection containers on the truck and unload the truck at the document destruction facility * Maintains a record of the bins, containers, and keys delivered to each customer and promptly submits those records to the supervisor * Assists in the shredding of documents and follows security procedures to ensure that confidential documents are handled properly during the transportation and destruction stages of the operation * Responsible for the proper use, loading, operation, and cleanliness, and daily preventive maintenance of equipment * Wears appropriate personal protective equipment and follows all safety regulations, which include promptly reporting accidents and injuries, following policies and procedures * Provides oversight to Shredding Technicians who may serve as helpers * Attends in-service training, meetings, and workshops as required * Other duties as assigned * Travel to/from warehouse and service locations Note: Duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may change at any time, with or without notice. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions where applicable.    QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:  The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:  * Experience driving a medium-sized truck, with the ability to operate a standard transmission. * Acceptable driving record, criminal background check, and pre-employment drug screening required * Basic understanding of document destruction procedures required to comply with National Association for Information Destruction certification standards and Federal and State privacy and information destruction standards, including standards relating to the destruction of classified government documents * Experience with equipment, operating techniques, and preventive maintenance of equipment associated with document destruction, to include safety precautions and hazards involved in the operation of a shredder and in the collection and processing of documents collected for destruction * Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of commercial motor vehicles (26ft box truck) * Able to complete delivery and pickup assignments in a timely and accurate manner * Capable of basic arithmetic, which includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division * Effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer service standards and practices, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise good judgment * Effective use of technology, including but not limited to Microsoft 365 and QShred software   PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:   Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:  * Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form * Must be able to lift 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 70 pounds * Must be able to move and direct pallet jack/carts with material weighing up to 900 pounds, which requires a full range of motion including, but not limited to, bending, crouching, stooping, pushing, pulling, or reaching at/below shoulder level and overhead * Must pass and maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) physical Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in an industrial setting and in medium- to large-sized vehicles and may be exposed to dust/lint.
