Long-term Substitute Biology Teacher   Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, 7-12, Public Charter School located in South Hadley, MA   Job Description: PVPA has an immediate opening for a long-term substitute biology teacher (anticipated for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year).  We are looking for a reflective practitioner who is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. The biology curriculum includes laboratory skills, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, biodiversity, ecology, and evolution. Students are expected to display their knowledge both individually and through group work in a variety of ways, including written pieces, class activities, homework, assessments, quizzes and tests, and lab work. This course allows students to make a connection between biology in the classroom and biology in the “real world," as well as prepare students for the Biology MCAS test.  Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for: 1. Teach five blocks (classes) that include Biology and a Botany class 2. Prepare curricula and instructional materials based on set departmental learning objectives 3. Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via PowerSchool online grading system 4. Apply PVPA’s standards-based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement 5. Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners 6. Supervise students during non-class time (e.g., lunch) as required  7. Attend and participate in regular faculty collaborative time meetings and school-wide professional development activities 8. Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents/guardians as scheduled, including an evening open house, and parent-teacher conferences 9. Participate in school-wide events that occur during the school day 10. Assist with other faculty administrative duties as required   Qualifications; The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting), be able to provide demonstrated knowledge in the content area and computer literate.  Preferred qualifications include two to five years of experience teaching biology in a public or private school, an SEI endorsement, MA teaching license in subject area and the ability to teach a variety of courses within the discipline.   Other Information/Instructions: Salary Range: The base rate is $23.97/hour, annualized $31,042.
