Local Direct Hire (LDH) Lower Elementary (G1-3) Learning Support and Early Years Physical Education Teacher required for August 2026 Applications will only be considered from qualified teachers with experience in an Early Years/Lower Elementary setting. OVERVIEW The Teacher is appointed by Head of School The Teacher reports to the Elementary/Secondary Principal DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Professional Knowledge Being familiar with and understanding, actively participating in ongoing development of the relevant curriculum documents. Actively striving towards personal professional development by attending courses, during the holidays if necessary, engaging in private reading, participating in all forms of relevant internal Professional Development and making use of the teachers’ resources. Contributing to the professional development of others in the school by giving support and encouragement, showing concern and sharing ideas and materials. Setting and maintaining high standards that are fair and reasonable for students in the classroom. Planning for Learning Selecting appropriate learning activities to maintain student interest to challenge and stimulate all students. Planning effectively for the long term (units of work) and the short term (weekly lesson plans) and daily (learning objectives). Recognising the major aims, objectives and goals to be achieved in each area of the school and work towards their achievement. Providing the class with a variety of experiences including field trips - where appropriate, which provide contact with the host country and community Making full use of all the resources the school has on offer. Posting all formative and summative assessments on Managebac. Use student achievement data to assist in the planning of relevant units, class tasks and other appropriate schemes of work. Teaching and Learning Ensuring that appropriate materials are available for proper differentiation, so that students can work at different levels and at differentiated tasks where necessary. Identifying the needs of all the students and challenging them by matching them to appropriate tasks and utilising a wide range of teaching strategies and activities. Using teaching methods/strategies appropriate to the composition of the class, especially with regards to the use of language. Being aware of clarity with regard to stating objectives and giving clear directions so that students know exactly what they are going to be doing during each lesson Being aware of the pace of lessons and setting appropriate tasks with adequate time allowances and proper variety provided for students. Encouraging good work habits by expecting high standards of presentation, proper elements of neatness and careful use of materials and books. Assessment of/for Learning Assessing all student work promptly, giving appropriate feedback designed to motivate all students. Keeping proper records of assessment (formative and summative) and using this to evaluate student performance, (skills, knowledge and progress), and to modify planning so that teaching can be adjusted where appropriate. Providing ample opportunity for practical and creative work where appropriate. Establishing satisfactory communication with parents and ensuring that sufficient and accurate information regarding individual student progress is passed on. Use appropriate technology in the classroom to enhance student engagement and learning Communicate with students and parents through the Progress Report System via Managebac Learning Environment Making sure that the classrooms are attractive, orderly and safe. Ensuring that regularly updated displays in the classrooms and corridors are vibrant, and promote student interest and learning. Providing a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and creates high expectations of students. Establishing clear parameters for student conduct and making expectations known. Encouraging positive behaviour which leads to effective and confident learning. Encouraging students to take responsibility for their own efforts, to find strategies for overcoming problems and generally promote self-discipline. Showing genuine concern for the social and emotional development of the students and developing positive relationships with all the students in the school. Providing pastoral care, support and guidance for students. Monitoring student wellbeing through careful review of wellbeing survey results and providing appropriate follow-up support (G3-12). Professionalism Being familiar with the school mission, philosophy, aims and objectives and working in accordance with these. Ensuring that classroom routines are established and followed. Providing effective use of student time. Being prompt to lessons. Arrive before the students and greet students as they enter the classroom. Being conscientious of time management skills throughout the school day, i.e. arriving early enough in the morning for proper preparation, where possible, being on duty before the bell, starting and finishing lessons according to schedule, being prompt for afternoon activities, meetings, assemblies. Being reliable at meeting all deadlines, e.g. student progress reports, curriculum development tasks, questionnaires, student registration, and all other required communications. Communicating concerns through the appropriate channels, not participating in harmful activities such as gossip and general criticism, and respecting confidentiality (of students, parents, staff members and school business). Seeking and using the advice of other staff members when appropriate. Striving for high standards in all forms of communications and appreciating the importance of communication as a problem solving tool. General Expectations Supervise the students before and after school, during breaks and lunch times, and at all other times as necessary as part of the duty roster. To provide cover for absent colleagues when required. To assist where possible, with special programmes, such as inter-school events, school productions, assemblies. To offer one After School Activity (ASA) during two of the three ASA Seasons and participate in one Community of Practice for one of the three seasons (teachers may choose to offer 3 x ASA and not participate in a Community of Practice.Teachers that coach a sport, may substitute the sports season for an ASA season. Teachers may choose to participate in more than 1 Community of Practice, but will still be required to offer 2 ASAs). To attend parent-teacher conferences when necessary. To attend all major whole-school community events To assist new members of staff and acquaint them with the school’s expectations and ethos. To perform any other duties that are deemed necessary by the Principal and/or Head of School. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND EVALUATION This is a fixed-term, 1-year contract, starting on 1st August, 2026. This is a Local Direct Hire Position (flights and accommodation are not included) Conditions of employment are guided by the most up to date school policies. Responsibilities
The teacher is responsible for providing learning support in Lower Elementary and teaching Physical Education in Early Years. This includes planning lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
