Description JOB SUMMARY: Bennett Day School Assistant Teachers provide operational and classroom support to lead teachers. Their duties include supporting classroom activities, supervising children, completing classroom administrative work, and reporting to lead teachers. JOB TITLE: Assistant Teacher FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORT TO: Lead Teacher PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the lead teacher in planning and supporting students’ assignments and activities. Participate by assisting with tasks like leading activities (such as a small reading group and/or a morning meeting), restocking supplies, and basic upkeep and setup of the classroom. Be responsible for overseeing students throughout non-classroom times including lunch, extra activities and special programs. Help monitor the class schedule in coordination with the Lead Teacher. Promoting a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment to children. Ensure students receive individual assistance in small groups to understand concepts as needed. Promote a safe and healthy classroom environment. Collaborate with the lead teacher to assess and monitor each student's progress while helping the ones who need extra attention and with emphasis on documentation. Resolve issues in collaboration with the Lead Teacher. Grade-level curriculum development support as requested by the Lead Teacher. Attend all professional development, faculty meetings, parent teacher conferences, and other meetings as needed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Support and assistance of students within the classroom. Professional Development: Wednesdays, 1:30-4:30; beginning and end of year PD Participation in Growth and Renewal process, ongoing reflection, individual and team meetings with Lead Teacher Participation in Home Visits (if applicable), conferences and Curriculum Night Participation in arrival/dismissal and/or lunch/recess duties as assigned (TBD) Hours: 7:30a-4:00p Requirements QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Bachelor’s degree required, in education or related field preferred Collaboration and excellent communication with team members Ability to learn and use apps, websites, and databases for advanced use. Must have an optimistic and empathetic attitude. Exceptional interpersonal skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job includes sitting (during planning and reporting) for long periods of time and standing for long periods of time (during observations and training). Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, run, sit on the floor, and stand up without assistance. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
