Description Job Title: Lower School General Music Reports to: Director of Fine Arts & Lower School Head Summary: An FWC Faculty Member is responsible for providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The FWC Faculty Member will know, love, and value his/her students in order to prepare them for a lifetime of faith, service, and leadership. He/She will also enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully at the next academic level and in society. Requirements Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To: Works with the students to create a positive classroom environment for FWC. Instructs students in citizenship and Christian principles. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials according to FWC curriculum. Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, and keeps appropriate records. Communicates with parents through conferences, e-mail, and other means provided by FWC. Creates an effective environment for learning through attractive displays and bulletin boards. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities as needed. Connects learning to Faith Standards Other duties as assigned by the Division Head or Director of Fine Arts Teaches general music to PK-4th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble. Directs choir for 5th Grade students Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students. Plans, rehearses, and directs students in Lower School musical programs for the school and community. Differentiates music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. Develops and refines music curriculum based on the TEKS through the lens of a Teaching for Transformation (TfT) framework. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute. Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress ofindividual students. Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, andequipment to prevent loss or abuse. Cooperates with Division Heads, Director of Fine Arts, and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, athletic events, seasonal programs, and competitions. Qualifications: Committed to living and teaching a life of service to Christ in accordance with the FWC Statements of Faith and Beliefs. Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education from an accredited university is required. Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels. Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment, is preferred. Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze training strongly encouraged. Valid Texas Teaching Certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned. Student teaching or an approved internship is essential.
Responsibilities
