Description
Overview Acts as collaborative member of the Practice Network team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens. Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family. Returns patient phone calls. Responsibilities Assesses problems/conditions requiring visit and accurately documents in medical records. Greets and screens patient for appropriate information, preparing for examination by provider. Assists provider in examination, treatment and referral of patient, preparing necessary paperwork, equipment, etc. Initiates testing ordered by provider, to include completion of paperwork and scheduling of appointments. Gives injections to patients of all ages. Assists with patient education. Maintains medical record entries and provides oversight of medical record content. Assists in referral management and tracking. Calls in prescription information as necessary and under direction of provider. Maintains appropriate level of medical supplies and drugs, to include inventorying and ordering. Develops and maintains a useful documentation system for care that complies with legal, JCAHO and quality management requirements. Perform x-rays under the direction of the physician. Ensures patients are charged accurately for services. Maintains files with referral slips and authorizations and makes appointments for consults while adhering to office scheduling policies. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Completion of Certified Medical Assistant Program or 3-4 years of experience. Completion of the CNA, or LPN preferred. Experience: Minimum of one year clinic experience in family or pediatric care setting. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Additional Skills/Abilities Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be able to use computer, fax machine and copy machine.
