Description Provides specialized care to patients with kidney failure by administering hemodialysis or peritoneal treatments, usually under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). They monitor vital signs, assess vascular access sites (fistulas/grafts), operate dialysis equipment, and document patient, treatment, and condition changes. Key Responsibilities and Duties • Role under direct RN supervision • Provide nursing care throughout patient assessment, initiation and discontinuation of treatment; monitor during and assess following treatment; and obtain necessary lab work • Assess and monitor patient’s access with intervention as appropriate • Follow the clinic’s infection control policies and procedures • Understand concepts of water treatment and effects on patient care • Communicate effectively to keep charge nurse aware of patient condition changes • Know and follow clinic risk management program • Administer and educate patient regarding medications, within scope of practice • Attend required training and staff meetings to maintain and expand skills Requirements Must be able to float between clinics (West Burlington, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Fairfax). Will be reimbursed for mileage. Must also complete a paid 12 weeks orientation. Successful Candidates Bring: • Excellent communication skills • Desire to collaborate with care teams • Ability to problem solve Education/Training: • Accredited practical nursing program completion • Dialysis experience preferred, not required • Current LPN license • Current CPR/AED certification • Current state IV therapy training requirements, if applicable
