Description of Work This position will coordinate and implement the Minor Permit Program in all 20 North Carolina coastal counties for the Division of Coastal Management (DCM). Responsibilities include the processing of Minor Permit applications according to the requirements of the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) and the development standards of the NC Coastal Resources Commission. The position is supervised by the Regulatory Section Chief and will work closely with DCM District Mangers in implementation of the Minor Permit Program. This position will be responsible for establishing a uniform training program for Local Permitting Officers (LPO) and will provide guidance on compliance with CAMA and the development standards of the Coastal Resources Commission. Key Responsibilities: • Processing of Minor Permit applications according to the requirements of the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) and the development standards of the NC Coastal Resources Commission (CRC). • Develop and Implement Minor Permit Program Training • Development of technical assistance strategies and materials for Local Permit Offices (LPOs) and DCM staff • Provide oversight and guidance to LPOs; coordinating compliance and enforcement actions associated with minor development enforcement cases • Provide assistance to the Attorney General's staff on legal actions associated with Minor Permits • Directly issuing Minor Permits in some locations requiring field work • Strong interpersonal skills will be required, as this position works closely with the public, DCM field staff, local governments, LPOs and the Attorney General’s Office. • Local Government Implementation and Enforcement Program Contract Administration • Provide Staff support to the CRC Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $61,545 - $80,764 Important: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date above. The Division of Coastal Management The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) works to protect, conserve, and manage North Carolina’s coastal resources through an integrated program of planning, permitting, education and research. DCM carries out the state’s Coastal Area Management Act, the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 in the 20 coastal counties, using rules and policies of the NC Coastal Resources Commission, known as the CRC.
