Description
Operational Execution & Process Monitoring: Operate ceramic disk filter units and thickeners, vacuum pumps, and associated slurry feeding systems in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Monitor and record critical process variables such as vacuum pressure levels, slurry density in the filter tubs, and cake thickness, underflow %solids/density (tailings) and underflow density (concentrate), overflow clarity, and recirculated water quality, Perform frequent physical inspections of the filter cake, recirculated/overflow water quality, thickener underflow %solids, to ensure consistent quality, TUF and moisture content,. Assist the Lead in adjusting rotational speeds and agitator settings to compensate for variations in slurry characteristics, whether in concentrate/tailings thickeners or ceramic filters. Operate local control panels and interface with the DCS/SCADA system to ensure the concentrate and tailings thickeners and filtration circuit remains within target parameters. Specialized Cleaning & Regeneration: Execute the specialized cleaning procedures essential for ceramic plate longevity, including automated acid washing cycles and ultrasonic cleaning. Handle the preparation and distribution of industrial acids (e.g., Nitric Acid) required for plate regeneration, ensuring precise concentration levels. Monitor the effectiveness of cleaning cycles by observing filtrate flow rates and vacuum recovery post-wash. Identify "blinded" or damaged plates and initiate the regeneration or replacement process to maintain throughput. Technical Maintenance Support: Perform routine inspections of filter plates, scrapers, distribution valves, and seals to detect early signs of wear or mechanical failure. Assist maintenance teams during planned shutdowns or emergency repairs of the filtration units. Troubleshoot minor mechanical or pneumatic issues on the filter units to minimize downtime. Manage the inventory of specialized tools and consumables required for the filtration area. Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, particularly those involving hazardous chemicals (acids), high-pressure air, and rotating machinery. Ensure the filtration area is maintained in a clean and hazard-free condition, managing slurry spills and chemical containment. Actively participate in pre-shift safety meetings and conduct regular hazard identifications (HAZID) at the work front. Utilize and maintain specialized PPE required for acid handling and ultrasonic equipment operation. Strictly follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures during all mechanical interventions. Data Tracking & Reporting: Log detailed hourly data on production volumes, moisture results, and chemical usage. Document any equipment anomalies or process deviations and report them immediately to the Ceramic Disk & Thickeners Lead. Provide detailed technical input for shift handover reports to ensure continuity across operational cycles. Training & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to general filter operators on the nuances of ceramic capillary filtration. Support the onboarding of new personnel by demonstrating safe chemical handling and machine operation. ArcelorMittal is the world's leading steel and mining company, with a presence in 60 countries and primary steelmaking facilities in 15 countries. Our material is part of the fabric of life. What we produce makes a difference – to individuals, communities, businesses and society. At ArcelorMittal, the safety, health, and wellbeing of our employees are our top priorities. We believe that every accident is avoidable, and it is essential for every employee, from the shop floor to the management committee, to hold this belief. Our purpose is to produce ever smarter steels that have a positive benefit for people and planet. Steels made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon and reduce costs. Steels that are cleaner, stronger and reusable. Steels for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructure that will support societies as they transform through this century. With steel at our core, our inventive people and an entrepreneurial culture at heart, we will support the world in making that change. This is what we believe it takes to be the steel company of the future. ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is operating inside Liberia since 2006, where we are employing approximately 1600 employees and about 1000 contractors mainly in the area of security as well as in transactional manual work like Bush cutting keeping the railway and our concession area free of natural overgrowth, as well as putting tarpaulins on the railcars etc. In Liberia we are running operations, spread over three locations, our harbour, and our Main offices in Buchanan, and the Nimba region the mines, existing of multiple mining locations at Tokadeh, Gangar and Yuelliton and a Crushing plant and rail loading facility, serviced by our own accommodation settlement in Yekepa. These locations are all connected with a 260 km Railroad, operated, and managed by AML, as per the MDA between ArcelorMittal and the government of Liberia. Currently 5 mtpa iron ore (DSO -Direct Shipping Ore) are produced, which will be phased out in the next few years and replaced with Iron Ore Concentrate. The Phase 2 project aims to increase export of Iron Ore to 15 mtpa (concentrate). This was restarted end 2020 after it was put on hold in 2014 due to Ebola outbreak in. Significant civil construction work was already well advanced when the project was put on hold. Phase 2 of the project consist of an iron ore concentrator at the mine, rehabilitation and upgrade of Rail line, and a new iron ore bulk handling terminal in the port.
Responsibilities
This role involves the hands-on operation, monitoring, and recording of critical process variables for ceramic disk filter units and thickeners, ensuring concentrate meets required moisture specifications. The specialist must also execute specialized cleaning and regeneration procedures for filter plates and provide technical support to general operators.
