Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s 1. Operational Supervision: 1. Skilled operation of various port equipment, including cranes, forklifts, excavators, wheel loaders, and other material handling machinery, to load and unload cargo from ships and trains. 2. Efficiently moving cargo to designated storage areas within the port, ensuring proper organization and preparation for further transportation or shipping 3. Conducting routine inspections and basic maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Reporting any malfunctions or issues to the maintenance team promptly 4. Working closely with other port personnel, including supervisors, maintenance teams, and logistics coordinators, to ensure smooth and coordinated operation. 2. Team Management: 1. Lead and supervise a team of workers at the DSO berth, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance. 2. Schedule shifts, assign tasks, and ensure staff adhere to safety regulations and operational guidelines Conduct pre-operational checks before each shift to ensure equipment is functioning properly. 1. Monitor team performance, providing feedback and addressing any performance issues or safety concerns. 3. Logistics Coordination: 1. Oversee the coordination between different teams, including those handling cargo, maintenance, and safety. 2. Communicate with vessel operators, port authorities, and other relevant parties to ensure the timely and safe arrival and departure of vessels 3. Ensure accurate documentation of all movements of materials, including shipping manifests, cargo records, and inventory logs. 4. Safety and Compliance: 1. Enforce safety procedures, ensuring that all activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company policies 2. Perform regular safety audits and inspections, addressing hazards and implementing corrective actions as needed. Follow directions from Supervisors or Supervisors regarding the movement of materials and the tasks to be completed. 3. Conduct emergency response drills and ensure the team is prepared for emergencies, such as spills, fires, or accidents 5. Maintenance and Equipment Management: 1. Monitor the maintenance of equipment used at the DSO berth, including cranes, conveyors, and loading/unloading machinery 2. Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment is regularly serviced and in optimal working condition. 3. Ensure proper inventory management for all tools and supplies used in daily operations. Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge 3. At least 2–3 years of experience in operating heavy machinery in an industrial or port setting 4. At least 1 to 2 years of experience in port operations or a related field, with a strong understanding of cargo handling and equipment operation 5. Possession of valid operator licenses or certifications for specific cargo handling equipment used at the port. 6. Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting heavy loads and working in various weather conditions. 7. Quickly identifying and addressing issues that may arise during operations, ensuring minimal disruption to port activities. 8. Meticulous in handling cargo and equipment, ensuring that all procedures are followed accurately to prevent errors and accidents. 9. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols. 6. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines. 8. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents. 1. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions. 2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for improving workplace safety. 3. ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) is operating inside Liberia since 2006, where we are employing approximately 1600 employees and about 1000 contractors mainly in the area of security as well as in transactional manual work like Bush cutting keeping the railway and our concession area free of natural overgrowth, as well as putting tarpaulins on the railcars etc. In Liberia we are running operations, spread over three locations, our harbour, and our Main offices in Buchanan, and the Nimba region the mines, existing of multiple mining locations at Tokadeh, Gangar and Yuelliton and a Crushing plant and rail loading facility, serviced by our own accommodation settlement in Yekepa. These locations are all connected with a 260 km Railroad, operated, and managed by AML, as per the MDA between ArcelorMittal and the government of Liberia. Currently 5 mtpa iron ore (DSO -Direct Shipping Ore) are produced, which will be phased out in the next few years and replaced with Iron Ore Concentrate. The Phase 2 project aims to increase export of Iron Ore to 15 mtpa (concentrate). This was restarted end 2020 after it was put on hold in 2014 due to Ebola outbreak in. Significant civil construction work was already well advanced when the project was put on hold. Phase 2 of the project consist of an iron ore concentrator at the mine, rehabilitation and upgrade of Rail line, and a new iron ore bulk handling terminal in the port.
