SALARY FROM £36,008 TO £40,991 PA INCLUSIVE WITH POTENTIAL TO PROGRESS TO £43,854 PA INCLUSIVE OF LONDON ALLOWANCE
The Department of Accounting enjoys a pre-eminent reputation globally. It ranks alongside the most highly-rated departments in accounting worldwide.
The Department invites applications for LSE Fellowships in Accounting from its current final-year PhD students who are looking to develop an academic career in accounting. Candidates are required to have submitted their PhD prior to commencement of the post and within the School’s five year registration period. This scheme is therefore not an extension of the completion of the PhD. Instead it offers a transition period between the PhD and the start of the academic career, and thus, to create space for the candidate to prepare for the competitive rookie job market which globally typically requires that applications are due in the late Autumn (around Nov-Dec) of the year prior to the start as an Assistant Professor. A requirement for this scheme is therefore that candidates commit to being on the academic job market during this LSE Fellow period and present a credible approach to that effect as part of their application.
Successful candidates will take up appointment following the submission of their PhD and will be based at the main campus in London. In recognition of the fact that the post holders are expected to pursue their job market prospects and shape their initial post-doctoral research plans, appointments can be made on a fractional basis; however, this does not extend the end-date of this position.
In addition to the requirement that the PhD must be submitted prior to commencement of the post and within the School’s five year registration period, as well as the commitment to go on the academic job market, candidates should have a developing record of research in accounting. They should also have relevant class teaching experience.
All appointments at the School are subject to proof of right to work in the UK. Final-year PhD students currently holding a Tier 4/Student visa may wish to investigate whether they are eligible to apply for the Graduate Visa, allowing them to work in the UK for three years after completing their PhD.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
