Pipeline Req: Intern, Powertrain Engineering, Summer 2026 Location: Newark, CA As the Intern, Powertrain Engineer, you must possess a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical fundamentals. Please note this is a pipeline req, by applying to this role, you are interested in at least one of the following teams: Powertrain Advanced Manufacturing, Tooling Powertrain Development and Engineering Powertrain Drive Unit Static Structures Powertrain, Inverter Role/Responsibilities: Own one or more technical projects related to Powertrain from idea to completion Create models and assemblies within CAD (Catia 3DX) Assisting in the design, build, and validation of powertrain within these teams Supporting data collection, analysis, and documentation Building prototypes in a high voltage lab environment Proactively identify and resolve unforeseen issues, and support cross-functional efforts such as prototype builds, testing, manufacturing, and quality initiatives Drive feedback to design and manufacturing engineering team to catalyze improvements in product, process & equipment Work with Manufacturing to solve problems that develop in the factory Apply concepts from coursework to drive creative solutions to complex problems Ability to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment Ask questions, absorb information, and develop technical skills to make the most of this opportunity - we’re here to help you as much as you’re here to help us! Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in 3D CAD software, worked on at least 1 project using CAD (CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Creo, etc) Ability to "get your hands dirty" running first builds Proven knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals Strong core physics understanding Strong understanding of manufacturing processes General knowledge of casting/molding processes Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical design, fabrication, and manufacturing Ability to apply book knowledge to real-world scenarios Fundamental understanding of mechanics, thermals and basic electrical circuits Hands-on practical experience with shop tools Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Ability to effectively communicate with others Curious, and eager to learn Nice to Have: Catia / 3DX experience Previous intern experience in automotive or in engineering Experience with Formula SAE Electric, Baja SAE, or other automotive team/technology Knowledge of how to run simulations (FEA, CFD, Mouldflow, etc.) Familiarity with PLC programming, exposure to electrical schematics, HMI development Experience working with electrical systems Knowledgeable with electric vehicle propulsion systems Knowledge of GD&T, High volume manufacturing, CAE analysis Education: Field(s) of study: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering or related field Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program at an accredited university Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS) Program Information: Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules. Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs. Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work. Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $43 to $51 (subject to changes). Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis. Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area. Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
