Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
VMA is inviting applications for the full-time position of Lunch and Recess Assistant, and After-School Teacher, working primarily in our Day School program. In this role, you will supervise students during lunch and recess periods, support our Early Years program, and co-run an After-School program. Additional responsibilities include supporting students on field trips, outdoor education days, school assemblies, and concerts, and facilitating the program during PA Days, March Break, and Summer Camp.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Core responsibilities in this position will largely be divided into student supervision, facilitating an After-School and Summer Camp program, and supporting the Early Years program.
Student Supervision
- Supervise students during lunch and recess to ensure safety and appropriate behavior
- Encourage positive social interactions and resolve conflicts as needed
- Assist with lunch setup, distribution, and clean-up
- Enforce VMA’s policies and maintain a safe, inclusive environment
- Model positive and appropriate adult-student relationships
- Develop consistent communication channels with students’ homeroom teachers to inform each other of all relevant information regarding students and families. Ensure consistency in behaviour management strategies, conflict resolution, and adherence to VMA’s policies and procedures.
After-School & Summer Camp Program
- Develop and implement an engaging, stimulating, and appropriate After-School program with the classroom co-teacher
- Direct and lead co-teacher(s), where necessary, to effectively implement classroom program
- Create and maintain a learning environment where materials are purposeful to students and free of clutter
- Ensure availability for consultation with families regarding students’ development. Communicate appropriate and professional guidance and feedback to families through meetings, phone calls, and verbal communications.
- Safely walk students to and from partner schools during the Before- and After-School program
- Actively engage in the outdoor program and ensure consistent supervision of all students
- Advise your Team Lead of pertinent information concerning students and their families on a timely basis
- Plan full-day programs on non-instructional school days (PA Days, Christmas Break, March Break, and Summer Camp)
- Ensure supervision requirements are met at all times during field trips and off-site activities
Early Years Program
- Support the Early Years classrooms when providing relief for classroom teachers during their programming times
- Ensure that all actions and activities meet the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) regulations and the City of Toronto’s Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI)
- Utilize appropriate behaviour management strategies that are appropriate for the age group and aligned with VMA’s policies and procedures
- Assist students in washroom routines, dressing, and meal/snack activities
- Cleaning lunch dishes, classrooms, and hallway spaces as needed
- Assist in documenting students’ activities and daily observations into their Lillio account on the classroom tablet as needed
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment that meets the requirements set forth by Toronto Children’s Services, Ministry of Education, and VMA
- Follow all health guidelines specified by Toronto Public Health
