We provide programming and events in an effort to establish a sense of community for those that self-identify as having disabilities or as disabled. In addition, Maccess strives to advocate on the behalf of students in a proactive and affirmative fashion and provide educational programming on and opportunities to learn about critical disability studies. Please note this posting will close Wednesday, June 17 at 11:59pm. The Resources Executive will create and maintain an online and offline (mobile) resource library for the McMaster Community. They will work with internal and external partners to ensure that the general student population is aware of the available services. One part of that will be connecting with clubs, groups and services around McMaster. The collection of materials requires a basic comfort with travelling around Hamilton to find the different services available to students. They will also collect manuals, articles and books related, but not limited to, the topics of intersectionality, critical disability theory, ableism, and human rights, mentalism/sanism, disability history, etc. They will also be responsible for coordinating articles for the Silhouette. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Awareness and understanding of topics associated with Maccess (i.e. intersectionality, critical disability theory, ableism, human rights, mentalism/sanism, disability history, intersecting oppressions and invisible privilege). Confidence and ability to challenge dominant views Organizational and time management skills Interpersonal skills Communication skills Writing and editing skills Research skills and critical thinking abilities Knowledge regarding ability-based resources on campus is an asset Effort & Responsibility Establish and maintain professional connections on and off campus Maintain confidentiality of all individuals accessing the Maccess Working Conditions Time demands may exceed stated hours of work Some travel in Hamilton may be required Most work can be completed in a shared office space Training and Experience Necessary training will be provided Equipment Personal computer Major Duties and Responsibilities Administrative Function Work closely with the Maccess Director to build and maintain an online, accessible resource catalogue on the MSU website Work with on campus partners to ensure resources are available in accessible formats Create and maintain a well-organized, extensive and intersectional mobile library Work with internal and external partners to create a resource list Travel around Hamilton to collect resources as needed Communications Function Work with Maccess Director and Volunteer & Training Coordinators to disseminate information to executives and volunteers. Work to advertise the resources in the McMaster community Coordinate Silhouette article writing and editing Maintain strong communication with The Silhouette Editor-in-Chief Work with the Director and Promotions Executive in keeping the website up to date Respond to general inquiries Maintain strong communication with the Maccess Director, fellow executives, and volunteers Other Other duties as assigned by the Maccess Director Provide feedback on the service Attend executive meetings as scheduled Be an active member of the Maccess community through attending events, maintaining an online presence, etc. Be available for peer support shift coverage Provide transition for the incoming Resources Executive When submitting your resume, please also submit a Word document (in place of a traditional cover letter) answering the following questions.
