SUMMARY
Assembles machines mechanically by following engineering blueprints, other written specifications and verbal instructions. The Machine Assembler II is able to build, independently, a machine from receiving parts to completion. The Machine Assembler II instructs and checks the work of other assemblers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Receive, review and prepare the kit of machine parts for assembly. Review build manuals that include drawings and bill of materials. Review instructions for assembly; arrange parts and materials for the machine to correspond to sales order specifications.
Receive part kits or shop orders for assembly, use drawings and bill of materials to follow assembly process. May use computerized Enterprise Resource Planning scan system and job orders for labor tracking.
Inspect and prepare parts. This may involve cleaning and retapping holes.
May become certified and use powered industrial trucks or cranes for moving large components or pallets of machine parts.
Drill, tap, or ream holes in metal pieces using hand tools.
Align components and attach with bolts, screws or various hardware.
Install moving parts, such as gears, shafts, levers, or bearings, and verify correct operation of components.
Bend and install pipe or plastic tubing for pneumatic systems.
Align and mesh gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears.
Use a wide variety of precision measuring and gauging devices.
Test or assist in testing operation of completed product.
Independently assemble a machine from start to finish in specified product category such as fillers, palletizers, intermittent motion, pouchers, or packers.
Use drawings to recognizes and fix problems with parts.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues with assemblies. Write Engineering Change Request (ECRs).
Document using non-conforming materials Report (NCMR) when non-conforming materials arise.
Use Auto Desk Vault system to look up drawings and schematics using electronic engineering library.
Know how to access ISO documents and use them.
Follow 5S procedures to keep work area clean and organized on a daily basis.
Communicate clearly with shop leads, production controls or engineers.
Train and mentor Machine Assembler I on machine assembly process.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent, technical certificate for machining or other related discipline, three years’ experience with machine assembly or mechanical assembly of complex electro-mechanical equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPUTER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Mastery of the Company ERP system related to labor hours and production orders; ability to research and retrieve drawings in the database program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures, amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; read and comprehend a variety of measuring devices such as calipers, scales and micrometers.
