Description

Are you ready to push the boundaries of technology in some of the world’s harshest environments? The ABS Harsh Environment Technology Center (HETC) is seeking a full-time Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative team. You’ll play a pivotal role in developing computer vision approaches and advancing sensor fusion capabilities to identify hazards in challenging marine environments.
Your work will directly enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime operations, ensuring vessels can navigate harsh conditions with confidence.
As part of the HETC team, you’ll contribute to groundbreaking projects. Such as one aimed at detecting, identifying, and tracking ice floes. By processing sensor data through advanced algorithms, you’ll help estimate ice loads and provide critical information to ship navigators for safer operations in ice-covered waters.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Programming Languages: Python, Matlab, C++.
  • Frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, or similar.
  • Tools: Qt, specialized AI certifications (e.g., Google AI, AWS Machine Learning).
  • Other Skills: Experience with sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and deploying machine learning models.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and deploying machine learning models.
  • Expertise in cameras, lenses, optics, lighting, and other image capture technologies.
  • Knowledge of Lidar, Radar, and IR data processing.
  • Understanding of marine industry operations.
  • Basic knowledge of life in icy and cold environments (e.g., 3+ winters in Canada or similar locations).
Responsibilities
  • Work together with a high-performing team of Naval Architects and Ice Mechanics experts.
  • Developing and implementing computer vision models for image segmentation and classification.
  • Designing sensor fusion systems that integrate data from cameras, Lidar, Radar, and other sensor types.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software developers, data scientists, and domain experts.
  • Creating user-friendly dashboards and interfaces for real-time feedback and visualization.
  • Occasionally assisting other ABS offices globally on similar projects.
