Position Summary The Machine Shop Lead is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all machine shop activities, inspecting for high-quality fabrication, machining, and repair work on vessel components to comply with regulatory standards. This role focuses on collaborating and supporting the Project Management team on production planning aligned with ship repair schedules and quality standards. The Machine Shop Lead reports to the Machine Shop Manager and supports up to 10 shop technicians and operators. Domestic travel may be required. Essential Functions Lead shop personnel to meet production schedules, milestones, and technical specifications aligned with project priorities Ensure crew compliance with NAVSEA standards, work instructions, JHAs, equipment inspections, and incident reporting Plan and communicate daily work with the Manager; monitor resources, equipment, and preventative maintenance to optimize productivity Support execution by securing required tools/materials, breaking down work packages for correct material ordering, and driving continuous improvement in quality and cost efficiency Other duties as assigned Requirements Must have a strong knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and ship repair compliance requirements Proficient with machine shop equipment and capable of independently testing requirements on a naval vessel Must have ablity to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills, including TCP for correct time charging and approvals Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness Education and Experience Journeyman, Technical or Associate degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 2 years of machine shop experience required, shipyard or ship repair environment preferred Competencies Fincantieri’s core competencies reflect our values and key behavioral expectations for all employees: Open Mindset: Identify and solve problems, embrace change, and seek continuous learning. Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates.
