Job Description:
The Machinist Apprentice is responsible for supporting the fabrication and welding team by operating manual and CNC machinery under the direction of the Welding Shop Manager. This role is focused on developing the foundational skills required to become a qualified machinist, with the guidance of a journeyman machinist, including interpreting technical drawings, preparing raw materials, and using precision measurement tools. The apprentice will follow a structured training plan, learn safe and efficient machining practices while supporting ongoing production and repair projects.

Responsibilities

  • Tools
  • Use, repair and maintenance of machine tools
  • Ability to check calibration of measuring tools
  • Ensure tools are put away and in good working order after use
  • Report damaged or worn tooling to supervisor

Materials

  • Ensuring batch numbers are maintained and transferred to left over materials
  • Materials are stored correctly
  • Correct materials are use

Other

  • Cleanliness of shop
  • Personal tools
  • Assist co-worker when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in machining with intention of Completing the apprenticeship program
  • Ability or familiarity to program CNC 3 axis mill
  • Proficiency in the use of manual knee mills and lathes.
  • Ideally have light fabrication and mig welding abilities or are willing to learn
  • Physically capable of lifting to 50lb
  • Good understanding of mechanical drawings
  • Troubleshooting skills and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment used for machining and light fabricating
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to complete essential duties in an efficient and timely manner
