Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We’re seeking an experienced Machinist with proven skills in large turning and milling to join our day shift team in Pinkenba.
This is a labour hire role through our recruitment partner, Haynes People, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position at HMG for the right candidate.
You’ll be machining large, heavy-duty components to tight tolerances, using well-equipped CNC and manual machines. This role is ideal for a tradesperson who thrives in a precision-focused, safety-conscious environment and enjoys working on challenging and diverse projects.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Setting up and operating large lathes and milling machines (manual and CNC) to machine heavy industrial components
  • Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings to produce precision parts
  • Machining hydraulic cylinders, shafts, housings, and other large-scale equipment for mining, construction, transport, and energy industries
  • Performing precision measurements and quality checks to ensure jobs meet specifications
  • Working with a range of materials including steel, alloys, and castings
  • Maintaining equipment, tooling, and ensuring work areas remain safe, organised, and clean
  • Collaborating with the workshop team to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Supporting continuous improvement by contributing ideas for machining efficiency and accuracy
