Description SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for basic principles of machining as well as the setup and operation of machines; including the use of lathes, mills, drills, saws, grinders, cut-off and other types of equipment. Incumbent will operate machine center per work instructions to achieve maximum utilization of equipment by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Demonstrates safety at all times to include; follows all safety rules and procedures using machine tools, shears, hydraulic presses, saw gauges, milling lathes, abrasive machines, cut off saws and tools, drill presses, automated and manually operated equipment Uses proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required Responsible for proper maintenance on machine center Locates, identifies and selects controls, switches, dials, levers, buttons, guards, stops and operating/controlling devices of all types related to machine tools Identifies and/or interprets mechanical hardware found in the machine shop, common detail drawings, various steel rules, and a variety of gauging devices Works with Planners and Machine Shop Managers to produce parts according to due date of the work-order Makes sure tools required for the next work-order are in place, minimizing down time Monitors setups and run time to ensure the correct time is recorded on the routing Records and notifies Planner and/or Machine Shop Manager when a work-order is not provided with a part Suggests ways to improve the process, which could result in, cost savings Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with mathematics emphasis or minimum three years’ experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires good critical thinking and interpersonal skills Knowledge of office software, organizational abilities and strong attention to detail A proven record of accomplishment that includes administrative management, facilities, creative problem solving and business partner experience. Have excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Must have a professional, outgoing, guest-service oriented manner. Ability to interact with a variety of people, and remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Must be friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and flexible and enjoy working with a variety of staff. Must be detail-oriented and work effectively under pressure while meeting all applicable deadlines. Must be able to work independently and productively with minimum supervision; work well under pressure; able to manage multiple projects. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays. Use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes required Minimum one year factory experience
