Location: Rochester, NY, On-Site Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm Compensation: $24.00-$33.00, based on experience The Machinist II-III in QVI’s Machine Shop operates manual mills and/or program computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling machine in a low to medium production volume environment. Role and Responsibilities: Operates and programs manual mills or computer numerically controlled ( CNC ) machine in a low to medium production volume environment. To include: · Machine (drill, mill and tap) a wide assortment of sometimes intricate and expensive castings, forgings, weldments and machined parts. · Inspect and verify parts with hand tools (micrometers, caliper) and/or hard gaging; and be accountable for own parts. · Set 3 axis position stops, fixture offsets, select proper feeds, speeds and tools, develop and fabricate basic fixtures. · Perform operator intervened operations that are required by program sequences, utilizing G/M codes. · Program, set-up, run parts, inspect, and make adjustments to produce conforming parts with no supervision. · Maintain a safe and orderly production area. · Complete programming of parts including: set-up, run parts, inspect, and make adjustments to produce conforming parts in an independent manner. (Level III) · Process machine parts completely and independently (start to finish), developing fixtures as needed, set proper feeds and speeds, leave appropriate material for next operation. (Level III) · Maintain a safe and orderly production area in accordance with 6S policies/protocols. (Level III) · Take initiative to identify ways to improve efficiency, without cutting corners. (Level III) · Always ensuring the highest level of quality is achieved, minimum material waste. Goal = Zero defects on every job, parts made to the print. (Level III) · Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Someone who has worked as a CNC machinist or has done CNC machining in this role could be a fit for this position! Requirements · High School Diploma required; Associates degree in related technical discipline preferred. · Journeyman or completion of apprenticeship program preferred. · Must have 5+ years of experience working on vertical and/or horizontal machine tools and/or CNC machining . (Level II) · Must have 10+ years of experience working on vertical and/or horizontal machine tools. (Level III) · CAM certification and/or proficiency preferred. (Level III) · Advance ability to read and interpret complex drawings, with interrelated dimensions and strong understanding of GD&T principles.(Level III) · Proficiency to produce parts of the highest quality with specifications of .0002” (3-5um) including bores, parallel, and flatness. (Level III) · Strong math skills, good working knowledge of SPC a plus · Ability to read and interpret drawings, sometimes of a complex nature with interrelated dimensions. · Proficiency to produce parts of good quality with specifications of .0004”-.0008” including bores, parallel, and flatness. (Level II) · Solid understanding of cutting tools, endmills, drill, and reamers. · Ability to perform tool offsets for length and diameter, with a willingness to further training. · Strong communication skills and fluent in machine shop terminology/concepts.
