POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court seeks to fill a part-time General Magistrate position available July 1, 2023. This is a temporary position funded for one year and will end June 30, 2024.
The General Magistrate position is a professional, quasi-judicial position that carries a high degree of responsibility. The Magistrate will conduct small claims pretrial conferences in accordance with Florida Small Claims Rule 7.090 and prepare proposed Orders. These hearings will be held virtually. This position may handle other County Civil hearings as determined necessary.
The position requires knowledge of legal principles, statutory and case law, court rules and procedures, as well as, the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and concisely, both verbally and in writing. The position requires the successful candidate to conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner while keeping the proceedings orderly and within set time limits.
Qualified applicants must be a member in good standing in The Florida Bar for at least five years immediately preceding employment. The applicant must be proficient in Word and Westlaw and must be able to personally prepare his/her own documents. The applicant must have excellent computer skills, including the ability to conduct hearings virtually through WebEx.
Salary: $46.87 hourly as State funded OPS (Other Personnel Services) position. This position is eligible for state group health insurance coverage. OPS positions are not eligible for holiday pay, do not accrue sick or vacation leave and are not eligible to participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS).
