Description

Empower Semiconductor is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Magnetics System Engineer to join our semiconductor power electronics team. This role focuses on the design, modeling, development, and integration of magnetic components—such as inductors, transformers, and magnetic materials—used in semiconductor-based power systems (e.g., DC-DC converters, power modules, and high-frequency systems). You will work closely with IC design, packaging, thermal, and system architects to optimize magnetic components for performance, reliability, and cost.

Responsibilities
  • Design & Development:
  • Design custom magnetic components (transformers, inductors, EMI filters) for high-frequency power conversion systems (from kHz to MHz).
  • Select and specify magnetic materials (ferrite, powdered iron, amorphous, nanocrystalline) suitable for application requirements.
  • Work with PCB layout teams to ensure optimal integration of magnetic components.
  • Develop magnetics models (analytical and finite-element) for accurate performance prediction.
  • Simulation & Modeling:
  • Use simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, MATLAB, SPICE, Simplorer) to model magnetic fields, losses, saturation, and thermal behavior.
  • Support co-simulation with system-level simulators to ensure system stability and EMI compliance.
  • Testing & Validation:
  • Develop and execute test plans for magnetic components in prototype and production systems.
  • Analyze failure modes and reliability data to improve magnetic designs.
  • Collaborate with test engineering teams to characterize components under real-world operating conditions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with IC designers, mechanical engineers, and system architects to optimize overall power delivery system.
  • Provide magnetic component guidance for package engineers and PCB layout designers.
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturers for custom component development.
