Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US. We currently have a 12 month renewable contract as a Mainframe z/OS DB2 Specialist with our large global infrastructure client, supporting a major financial client account. This could be an indefinite long term contract or move into a permanent role.

Type: Contract
Duration: 12 months to start + possible multiple extensions
Rate: $100 - $115/hr + C2C - depending on overall experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:

z/OS DB2 System Programmer is responsible for the installation, customization, and maintenance of the DB2 subsystem on the z/OS platform. This role involves planning, analysis, design, building, testing, consulting, and implementation of DB2-related projects. The z/OS DB2 System Programmer ensures that the DB2 environment is stable, efficient, and secure, supporting the needs of the business.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Extensive experience with DB2 system programming on the z/OS platform.
Strong knowledge of z/OS components and architecture.
Proficiency in using DB2 diagnostics tools and tooling.
Experience with performance analysis and tuning.
Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP & VTAM) and security (RACF/ACF/CLAS).

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience with DB2 utilities and tools.
Knowledge of mainframe storage management.
Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and execution.
Experience with mainframe modernization and cloud integration.

Responsibilities

Install, customize, and maintain the DB2 subsystem on the z/OS platform.
Perform system upgrades and apply maintenance to keep the DB2 environment current.
Monitor DB2 performance and tune the system to optimize performance.
Provide technical support to application developers and other system users.
Troubleshoot and resolve DB2-related issues.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Maintain system documentation and procedures.
Ensure system security and compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Collaborate with other IT teams to support business initiatives.
