APPRENTICE TECHNICIAN

The apprentices will work as part of an established engineering team focussed upon operating & maintenance critical essential and non-essential systems. The apprentice will work across the following scopes:

  • Attendance at an external Apprentice training venue on a weekly basis 1-day/wk.
  • Maintain, improve and repair mechanical and/or electrical systems & assets.
  • Collaborate with supervisor/s to undertake fault finding exercises across engineering systems & assets.
  • Undertake surveys and investigations under the supervision of others.
  • Completion of quarterly training reports.
  • Provide technical presentations on set topics and subjects quarterly.
  • Undertake health & safety training to IOSH – Operating Safely.
  • Maintain continuity of work and information between colleagues.
  • Attendance at original equipment manufacturer system training schedule.
  • Completion of Level 3 City & Guilds training Electrical or Mechanical apprenticeship.

During your apprenticeship there will be an opportunity to collaborate with trained personnel covering most of the plant listed above. How ‘hands on’ you get depends on your level of competency.
You will be managed by a Team Leader and mentored by a Senior Technician depending on what site you are working from. In addition, the relevant teams (dependant on site) will make sure you have the support you need.
Their job is to ensure that your training fits your personal requirements, offers the skills needed for the job and satisfies national standards. They will also be there to help you through any challenging times.
Standard working day is 08:00 - 16:00, this depends on site, but it will be a 35-hour week and will include 1 day attending college each week.
Please note that the training provider is based in Dagenham and that you will attend the providers site 1 day a week. Therefore, for years 1 & 3 of your apprenticeship you will be based in Debden for 4 days per week and Dagenham for the remaining 1 days of that week. Likewise in years 2 & 4 you will be based in Threadneedle Street for 4 days per week with the remaining day in Dagenham.

PERSON DESCRIPTION – APPRENTICE TECHNICIAN

  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 (old grade C) or above, to include English, Mathematics one Science.
  • You will need to show that you are committed, and aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and the company who would employ you.
  • You will also need to be happy to work as both part of a team and individually and be able to use your own initiative.
  • Must be able to collaborate closely with a mentor and assist in daily activities.
  • Apprenticeships can be demanding but they are rewarding.
