JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities by performing maintenance tasks across various systems. This position requires a blend of mechanical knowledge, electrical skills, and customer service abilities to maintain and enhance the functionality of our equipment and infrastructure.
The Maintenance Assistant will support the daily operations of the hotel’s maintenance and facilities function. Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, this role assists with reactive and planned maintenance tasks, ensuring the property remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.
This is a hands-on role requiring practical skills, strong awareness of safety standards, and the ability to support inspections, repairs, gardening, and general maintenance duties. The Maintenance Assistant plays an essential role in maintaining guest satisfaction, supporting the wider hotel team, and upholding high presentation standards across the property.

Key Responsibilities1. Facilities Support & Maintenance

  • Assist in conducting daily inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Carry out minor repairs to plumbing, lighting, fixtures, fittings, and general wear and tear.
  • Support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks under supervision.
  • Respond to maintenance tickets in a timely and professional manner.
  • Help maintain heating, lighting, and ventilation systems.
  • Keep maintenance areas clean, organised, and hazard-free.
  1. Compliance & Health & Safety
  • Support weekly fire alarm tests and monthly emergency lighting checks.
  • Ensure fire exits, extinguishers, and signage remain accessible and compliant.
  • Follow hotel procedures for water hygiene, waste disposal, and PPE usage.
  • Report hazards, defects, or non-compliant findings.
  • Adhere to company Health & Safety and fire safety procedures at all times.
  • Assist in the routine testing of fire alarms and emergency lighting systems.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in setting up and testing fire panels and detectors.
  • Keep accurate records of fire safety checks and support emergency drills.
  • Report faults with fire safety equipment immediately.
  1. Gardening & Exterior Maintenance
  • Maintain the appearance of the hotel’s external areas including car parks, pathways, and garden spaces.
  • Perform basic gardening duties such as grass cutting, weeding, watering, and seasonal planting.
  • Ensure bin stores, entrances, and delivery areas are clean, safe, and presentable.
  • Carry out outdoor cleaning tasks to enhance the overall look and feel of the property.
  • Report any external maintenance issues promptly to the Maintenance Manager.
  1. Contractor & Equipment Support
  • Assist with setting up areas for contractor work and monitoring safety practices.
  • Help maintain a basic inventory of tools, materials, and consumables.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and stored correctly after use.
  • Record jobs completed and report on recurring faults or issues.
  1. Team Collaboration & Support
  • Follow instructions from the Maintenance Manager and prioritise urgent tasks.
  • Support the Housekeeping and Operations teams where required.
  • Help ensure guest areas are in good repair and support room readiness.
  • Assist with emergencies including leaks, faults, or temporary repairs.
  1. Presentation & Property Standards
  • Keep exterior areas (car parks, bin stores, delivery zones) clean and secure.
  • Ensure maintenance areas, back corridors, and stores are safe and tidy.
  • Carry out touch-up painting and minor cosmetic repairs as required.
  • Respond to guest-impacting issues promptly and professionally.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Basic experience in general maintenance or handyman work (hotel or facilities environment preferred).
  • Good understanding of safety protocols and a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to follow maintenance schedules and respond quickly to tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Flexible, organised, and committed to delivering quality work.
