JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent. 40 hours per week. 5 days / 7, Monday to Friday (Occasional Saturday day shift on key dates such as check in/check out weekends) may be required to work on-call, on a rotational basis.
Property: Student Castle Edinburgh, Causewayside
Direct Report: City Manager
Salary: £26,500 - £29,000 (D.O.E + trade skill certification)

ESSENTIAL PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Experienced in a multi discipline maintenance environment, with a commitment to undergo continuing professional development.
  • GCSE grade C in English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Current Driving License.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE:

  • Skilled in ‘hands on’ maintenance, diagnosis and repair of a range of plant equipment and capable of anticipating potential faults or problems which may occur within the full range of building services.
  • Ability to work effectively without close supervision and possess good organizational skills.
  • A working knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Knowledge of PPM maintenance systems.
  • Experienced in the safe use of hand tools, and power tools.
  • The ability to communicate clearly at all levels within the organization.
  • IT & systems literate, use of IT systems to provide/monitor data within the management reporting systems.
  • Flexible – is willing to undertake a range of tasks and duties vital for the effective and successful running of the site.
  • Good at planning and organization.
  • Innovative.

  • Works well with others.
  • Confident, outgoing and presentable.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

To ensure that repairs and maintenance work is carried out as and when requested throughout our two properties. We need someone with strong all-round building maintenance experience who can manage contractors, planned and reactive works and manage expenditure and budgets.
Reporting to the Assistant Property Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a rolling programme of repairs and maintenance for the building, undertaking minor electrical repairs, decoration, building fabric repairs, statutory and regulatory compliance checks and routine maintenance checks of all M&E equipment and machinery.
This role will be very hands on, spending most of your time with the team and carrying out your daily duties.

  • Maintenance of records in line with company procedure.
  • Accurate completion and population of all job sheets with relevant information.
  • Building professional relationships with all colleagues/residents and specialist contractors.
  • Willingness to gain further knowledge via attendance on training courses and toolbox talks where required.
