Description Job Summary: Ensure and enhance the health and well-being of our Residents by assisting the Maintenance Director in providing a maintenance, repair and safety program involving all properties of the United Pioneer Home including its grounds. Maintenance Functions Performs a variety of repair and painting tasks Performs cleaning tasks such as carpet shampooing and floor cleaning Performs grounds maintenance such as snow removal Handles incoming and outgoing deliveries and stocks supply closets Removes and stores refuse such as recyclables, hazardous waste, ordinary refuse Utilizes appropriate procedures, equipment, and chemicals according to infection control standards Follows standard precautions and works within OSHA guidelines Utilizes materials and supplies in an efficient, cost-effective manner Runs errands as requested Reports any equipment malfunction to the Maintenance Director Personnel Functions Attends designated staff meetings as scheduled Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other staff, whether within the maintenance department or inter-departmental personnel Completes assigned training in a timely manner Learns and follows fire and other work safety policies Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect of Residents per facility policy Remains free of criminal conviction that may preclude employment in the nursing home setting (including but not limited to theft, battery, assault) Reports any pending criminal or civil charges or matters to the Administrator by the next business day Follows all facility policies and procedures Follows the direction of the Maintenance Director, Administrator and/or Director of Nursing Always represents the United Pioneer Home in a positive manner unless contraindicated by law Performs other duties as qualified for and as directed Requirements Qualifications Able to communicate fluently in written and spoken English Able to read and follow labels and instructions Basic working knowledge of various trade fundamentals such as plumbing, electricity and carpentry Aptitude and desire to learn all aspects of nursing home maintenance Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Available to assume on-call duties on alternating weekends Minimum age 18 Other Skills and Abilities Required Demonstrated concern for the elderly and ability to treat Residents with respect and dignity Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of Resident information, per HIPAA regulations Strong time management and teamwork skills Ability to prioritize duties and to understand and follow work assignments Customer service oriented Ability to work with motorized equipment as required Ability to work as scheduled and adapt to changes in bi-weekly work schedule Ability to problem solve and apply knowledge and resources in response to a variety of maintenance situations Physical Requirements Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling, bending, and stooping movements for up to 8 hours per shift Ability to work in awkward positions such as lying down, bending over, lying on side, leaning forward, kneeling, reaching above head frequently, climbing, using repetitive shoulder and arm motions Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawl space, attic, under sinks, etc. Ability to work in all types of weather Adequate strength and endurance to perform assigned tasks Able to lift up to 100 pounds frequently Achieve negative assessment for infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability Remain free of illegal drug use and signs of impairment as per facility policy
