Description:
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of the largest human services providers in California that operates a variety of programs to serve the poor and strives to find permanent solutions to crisis situations by offering clients the tools and resources needed to achieve greater self-reliance and stability in their lives.
The person in this role assists by performing a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance duties related to the agency’s residential, program, and office facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Duties include routine plumbing, electrical, painting, light construction, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and similar activities.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in buildings operated by Good Shepherd Center.
- Inspects and tests machinery and equipment for proper operation.
- Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
- Assembles and maintains pipe systems and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, faucets, washers, and related equipment.
- Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
- Assists safety coordinator in identifying unsafe building conditions and suggests effective remedies.
- Ensures that the building, parking lot and the general surrounding area are kept cleaned, maintained, and in good repair.
- Performs general cleaning duties as needed.
- Assists in preparing units for incoming and exiting residents.
- Assists with shelter housekeeping and maintenance; maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- One year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent.
- One to three years related experience.
- Custodial cleaning methods and equipment.
- Cleaning materials and chemicals.
- Work hazards and safe work practices.
- Catholic Charities’ policies, procedures and organization.
- Be familiar with domestic violence dynamics, such as risk factors and impact of violence on families.
- Have an understanding of emergency protocols and procedures.
